History 1940 to 1950

4/5/1940 Stourbridge lost a friendly match against  Birmingham 5-7
8/6/1940 Stourbridge lost in a friendly against Birmingham 7½-1½.
23/9/1940 The national chess centre was burnt down during the German Blitzkrieg.
5/10/1940 The club's AGM was held
4/10/1941The club's AGM was held
1/11/1941All the club's activities were suspended for the rest of the war.
9/11/1944 A special meeting was held.
27/1/1945The club won a friendly match against Tipton 4½-3½
10/3/1945The club won a friendly match against Tipton 7½-½
16/3/1945The Wolverhampton league is inaugurated.
24/3/1945The club lost a friendly match against Worcester city 1-6
21/4/1945The club played lost a friendly match against Worcester city
2/8/1945The Wolverhampton league was inaugurated but Stourbridge did not join it until 1969.
1/9/1945The presidents trophy tournament was won by S.H Willetts. 7 members took part in a double round-robin tournament.
3/3/1945A special meeting of the Worcestershire County chess association was held. It was decided all the pre-war competitions should be held in the 1945-46 season.

17/11/1945Stourbridge beat Worcester Royal grammar school 5-1 in their first post-war match in the Worcestershire division 1.

11/04/1946 A lightning tournament was held.
3/10/1946 The club's AGM was held
29/10/1946Stourbridge beat Dudley 10-0 in a friendly match. This was our first match against Dudley for forty years.
6/11/1946Dr. Brian Dudley who subsequently became president of the club, was selected for his first match away against Stourport.. Unfortunately he lost by default as the team were unable to get there due to thick fog.

13/11/48 Lye playing competitive chess for the first time in 40 years
1948-1949Stourbridge's K. Parkes won junior Championship of Worcestershire to win the  GC Brown Junior Trophy.
1948-1949The club finished 4th in the Worcestershire Lyttelton trophy
1948-1949 Cobham trophy (division 2) Northern
20/8/1949G.F. Harris formerly of Stourbridge but now Lye, won the "First A" tournament at the British championships in Felixstowe.
06/10/1949 The club's AGM was held
23/3/1950 Stourbridge lost 6½-8½ to Birmingham in a friendly match
20/5/1950 Stourbridge drew a friendly match against  Birmingham 6-6
