Tony Evers Match

The annual Tony Evers memorial match was held this week.  This is an end of season friendly match against Halesowen with a buffet and raffle.
It started badly for Stourbridge and at the supper break Stourbridge were 3-1 down. Fortunately, the Stourbridge players fought back in the remaining  games and the top 3 boards put on a great performance to all win their games.  With 2 more wins secured by  boards 7 and 8 and draws on boards 5 and 6,  Stourbridge won the match 6-4.

Dave's 40th

Congratulations to club secretary and treasurer Dave Scriven on his 40th birthday. As a surprise for his birthday, his wife Bev organised a simultaneous chess display. The simultaneous was given by I.M. Lawrence Cooper who took on 17 players at Stourbidge chess club on Monday 3rd November.

Star performer was Steve Jukes who survived an initial attack where lawrence sacrificed several pawns. In an end game where Steve was 3 pawns up, Lawrence graciously resigned. Bryan Dudley and Don Curry also played well to draw their games.

It was a very enjoyable evening. Thanks Bev.
